DanceWorks Shanghai

DanceWorks Shanghai (DWS) is a competitive dance studio founded by Yun Cheng to provide the highest quality of dance education, fitness instruction and dance performance opportunities, especially to the expatriate community. I designed the DWS website in Squarespace, translating Yun’s mission into clear copy and writing engaging blog posts about performances and studio updates. I also selected photographs from annual recitals and curated galleries to showcase performance opportunities.

Role: Website Manager

Date: September 2016 — December 2020

Objective: Design a visually-appealing website to draw new students, particularly from Shanghai’s international school community. The most important information to convey was 1) the class schedule, 2) regular blog posts regarding studio announcements, 3) DWS’s unique opportunities for students such as its production team for advanced dancers and National Honor Society for Dance Arts membership.

Skills: Squarespace, Web Design, HTML/CSS, Branding, Content Writing

As a studio that primarily catered to younger dancers and whose mission was centered around dance as self-expression, I used bright and energizing colors and a more dynamic layout for the site’s content.

After each performance, I sorted through the photographs, selected the best representations of the show, and organized them into visually appealing galleries.

I wrote 47 pieces of blog content ranging from educational articles about dance to studio announcements.
